Student Profile: William Olmstead, CSU Student Veteran of the Year
Cleveland State University College of Law 2L student, Captain William Olmstead, Ohio Army National Guard, who served for a decade as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army with multiple overseas deployments to the Middle East, was named CSU’s 2023 Student Veteran of the Year.
William was recognized at the CSU’s Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony and the City of Cleveland Veterans Day Parade + Ceremony. He was nominated for the award by CSU|LAW Dean Lee Fisher Associate Dean Carolyn Broering-Jacobs, and Professor Doron Kalir, among others.

It is all too easy to slow down in November. The days become shorter, the nights become longer.
Whether it is because of the anticipation of the coming holidays and a much-deserved break, or, more likely, from fatigue or burnout after a long semester, November is the month to persevere.

In last week’s Monday Morning Message, I expressed my profound grief over the loss of innocent lives in Israel, but I did not think it was appropriate for me to say anything further until after the university made a statement. On Friday, CSU President Laura Bloomberg and CSU Board of Trustees Chair David Reynolds sent the below open letter to the CSU community. I strongly support their statement and thank them for their continued leadership.
