Washington Post writer Laura Meckler will talk about her recently published book, "Dream Town: Shaker Heights and the Quest for Racial Equity." Her book examines the nationally recognized Shaker Heights School District's experience with racially integrated education. She will talk about what's worked and what are some of the continuing challenges that Shaker schools face in striving to ensure a racially inclusive and equal integrated education for all.
CSU|LAW Launches David H. Braff Animal Law Center and Clinic
Cleveland State University College of Law recently launched the David H. Braff Animal Law Center and Clinic. The Center is the first of its kind at an Ohio law school. In addition to a dedicated Animal Law Clinic starting in January 2024, the Center will offer academic courses, public programming, externship opportunities and scholarships.
“We plan to build an animal law program that will be among the finest in the country, providing students with excellent practical learning opportunities, and providing justice for animals,” said CSU|LAW Dean Lee Fisher.

CSU|LAW Launches Terry Gilbert Wrongful Conviction Clinic
The Clinic will fill a critical need in Cuyahoga County, where there is no local wrongful conviction program.
Cleveland State University College of Law recently launched the CSU|LAW Terry Gilbert Wrongful Conviction Clinic. As part of the law school’s Criminal Justice Center, the new Clinic will provide legal assistance to incarcerated individuals convicted of a felony in Ohio with claims of actual innocence or manifest injustice.
Terry Gilbert, a 1973 CSU|LAW graduate and a member of the law school’s Hall of Fame, after whom the clinic is named, has dedicated his legal career to promoting justice and civil rights.
